Walk into any carpet showroom and it's easy to feel a bit lost, so many textures, piles and names, and not always much explanation of what actually separates them. Here's a straightforward look at the main carpet types we fit, so you've got a clearer idea of what might suit your home before we even step through the door.
Saxony
Saxony is the classic soft, plush carpet most people picture when they think of a cosy bedroom or living room. The fibres are cut to an even height and twisted slightly, giving it that smooth, luxurious look. We stock both deep and loose Saxony options, including our Luxury and Superior ranges. It feels wonderful underfoot, though it shows footprints and vacuum lines more than some other types, so it suits calmer rooms better than a busy hallway.
Twist Pile
Twist pile carpets use more tightly twisted fibres than Saxony, which helps them hold their shape better and hide footprints and marks more effectively. Our Debut range is a good example, a shorter twist that's still soft and comfortable, but a bit more forgiving for family rooms and spaces that see a reasonable amount of use.
Deep Pile vs Short Pile
Beyond the specific weave, carpets are also often described by how long the fibres are. Deep pile carpets, like our Lagos range, have longer fibres for a soft, plush feel underfoot, ideal for bedrooms and living rooms where comfort is the priority. Short pile options, such as our Alaska range, have shorter, denser fibres that tend to hold up a little better in busier areas, while still feeling comfortable underfoot.
Polypropylene
Polypropylene carpets, including our Alicante and Hong Kong ranges, are made from a synthetic fibre that's naturally resistant to staining and moisture, making them a practical choice for busy households, playrooms, or anywhere spills are more likely. They tend to be more budget friendly too, without sacrificing much in terms of look or comfort.
Bringing Samples to You
Photos and small swatches only tell you so much, seeing and feeling a carpet in your own home, under your own lighting, makes a real difference when deciding between pile types. That's the whole idea behind how we work, bringing a full range of samples to you rather than asking you to picture it from a shop display. It's also worth browsing our vinyl, laminate and LVT ranges if carpet isn't quite what you're after.
